HIV: Lagos screens 675 public servants, counsels others

HoS tasks workers on prioritising their health
Lagos State Government, through its Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), has organised a free HIV screening and counselling service for its workers.

The screening exercise, which is part of the activities lined up for the celebration of the 2024 Public Service Week and held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, had in attendance public servants across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Head of Service, Bode Agoro, reiterated the commitment of the state government to sustainable healthcare delivery for its workforce, as the state recognises the significance of maintaining good health for productivity.

Agoro, therefore, urged public officers to prioritise their health by taking advantage of the free health screening and also improve their health by seeking proper healthcare.

He, however, promised that the state government would continue to ensure a conducive and healthy working environment for workers.

The HoS, while congratulating public servants on the successful celebration of the 2024 Public Service Week, commended them for an effective service delivery.

Chief Executive Officer of the AIDS control agency, Dr Folakemi Animashaun, stated that the 2024 Public Service Week themed “Fostering Innovation Amid Global Challenges: A Public Sector Perspective,” is well thought-out as the agency is currently exploring innovative policy-making and implementation geared towards eradicating HIV/AIDS by 2030.

Animashaun further said that LSACA had been instrumental to coordinating HIV/AIDS control programmes in the state, adding that the state has intensified efforts in upscaling its Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) programmes, public awareness and sensitisation programmes, free HIV testing and counselling, community outreach programmes, youth-focused programmes and has also invested in research and data collection for a better understanding of the trends and demographics of HIV/AIDS in the state.

The CEO of the agency noted that the free HIV screening and counselling service is one of the strategies deployed by the agency to reach members of the community, adding that 675 public servants benefited from the free HIV screening, HIV counselling sections, as well as the distribution of free condoms and IEC materials to members of the public.

She, however, emphasised the state’s unwavering commitment to improving access to healthcare services, stating that the state is dedicated to curbing the spread of the virus and ensuring that all residents have access to necessary resources for prevention, testing, and treatment.
