Lagos, groups partner in free health programme

As part of its health programme in six districts, the Lagos State government Health District III has carried out free medical outreach in Ikoyi, Lagos, titled “AlaafiaEko”.

The programme held in collaboration with Ikoyi Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Rotary Club of Dolphin Estate featured health services such as blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, HIV counseling and tests, Body Mass Index (BMI), eye checks and free eyeglasses, health education, treatment of minor ailment with drugs and TB screening.

At the event, Special Adviser to the Governor, Lagos State on Health, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, said the programme was carried out as part of Babajide Sanwo-olu administration’s plan to help the residents overcome the cost of drugs and appropriately take good care of their health.

She said the Permanent Secretaries in each of the six districts are targeting 4,000 beneficiaries per district, totaling 24,000.
Ogunyem disclosed the government’s medical programme includes one month of free drugs and health insurance for one year.

The President, Rotary Club of Dolphin Estate, Adeyanju Oyebola, said the club partnered with the government and Ikoyi Obalende LCDA in the programme because it aligned with the health programme of Rotary International.

Permanent Secretary, Lagos Health District 3, Dr Monsurat Adeleke, urged Lagos residents to patronise 329 primary health centres in the districts, adding that the patronage had been low.

Medical Officer, Ikoyi Obalende LCDA, Dr Akintayo Adebayo, said the programme fostered the attitude of proper health-seeking behaviour of people by linking them with a healthcare facility.
