In the heart of Nigeria, a new generation of visionary and dedicated young minds are reshaping the country’s agricultural landscape. With a passion for sustainable farming, innovative technologies, and a deep-rooted commitment to food security, these young Nigerians are blazing the trail in agriculture like never before.
Oginni Tolulope Joshua, the CEO of Transfurd Limited, is one of these remarkable individuals at the forefront of this agricultural revolution. Transfurd Limited is an agricultural development and management service company encompassing Transfurd Farms and other related businesses.
Earlier today, Oginni Tolulope Joshua had the opportunity to share his inspiring journey on Plus TV’s ‘One on One with Young CEOs,’ hosted by the talented Elsie Godwin. When asked about his venture into agriculture, he revealed an unexpected twist that led him to his current path.
“I wanted to further my studies in the US. I got the admission and everything, but the visa was denied. At that point, I came back to the drawing board and I saw a need for me to come into the sector with zero knowledge,” Oginni explained. He continued, “I saw a statistic on CNN placing Nigeria as one of the countries with the highest number of people living in poverty. That got my attention, knowing fully well that agriculture is one of the ways poverty can be eradicated and that food insecurity is a pressing issue in the country. So, I felt the need to come into the sector to see how food security can be scaled up. That burden and passion for Nigeria propelled me to venture into the sector.”
Highlighting his vision for young Nigerians to enter the agricultural sector, he emphasized, “Beyond planting, planning, food processing, and production, I am trying to see a way young Agropreneurs like myself can be raised.
I want to see a way people can be discouraged from the mindset of having to go to Europe, trying to look for illegal means of escaping poverty. I want to raise young generations of farmers who will become proud citizens, irrespective of their socioeconomic background.”
Oginni Tolulope Joshua also announced his company’s commitment to making the agricultural sector more accessible to young Nigerians. He expressed his aspiration to empower 5000 of them before 2025, stating, “I am trying to create a platform where young minds can enter this sector. The agricultural sector is not an industry people readily consider, especially the youth. I am trying to create a platform where it becomes youth-friendly, allowing them to excel with or without prior knowledge of the sector. We have set a target to raise 5000 young Agropreneurs by 2025. We have already begun this journey through our youth empowerment scheme. Last year, we empowered approximately 25 farmers in rural communities with credit facilities and training, and this year, we have provided 25 youths with one hectare of land each.”
