For his significant contributions to national development, legal scholarship and public service, the Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja, has approved the conferment of an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) on renowned legal luminary, Prof Yusuf Olaolu Alli (SAN).
  
The announcement was conveyed in a formal letter dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hakeem Fawehinmi, who said the decision followed the approval of the institution’s Governing Council at its 83rd Extraordinary Meeting, based on a recommendation of the University Senate.
  
Fawehinmi described the recognition as part of the university’s tradition of honouring distinguished Nigerians who have made significant contributions to national development, legal scholarship and public service.
  
The SAN is among a select group of eminent personalities to be honoured at the institution’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony, scheduled to be held on April 18, 2026, at the university’s main campus along Airport Road, Abuja.
