Lawmakers rate NYSC high on FoIA
The House of Representatives has commended National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in its process of implementing the Freedom of Information Act (FoIA). Corps Director of Press and Public Relations, Abosede Aderibigbe, stated this in Abuja at a training organised for FoIA Schedule Officers.
She noted that the scheme was working towards enhancing its proactive disclosures of information about NYSC, especially through its official website.
“This approach is quite in consonance with section 2 of the FoIA, which requires public institutions to make certain ‘proactive disclosures to the public.’ In view of the place of NYSC in the psyche of the Nigerian populace, especially the youths, we must be circumspect in response to public enquiry about the scheme.”
In his address, Director-General of NYSC, Brig-Gen Sule Kazaur, noted that the scheme has, since the act came into effect, taken measures to ensure full compliance.
“It is pleasing to note that since the last training of the schedule officers, there has been remarkable improvement their performance, especially with information management and speed of response to requests,” he said.”
Kazaure noted that the training is another illustration of NYSC’s commitment at ensuring good service delivery through the training of all cadres of its personnel.
