New task force to streamline checkpoints along Lagos-Seme border highway

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, Mr Fayoade Adegoke, has announced the formation of a task force to regulate checkpoints along the Lagos-Seme border highway.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held on Tuesday, AIG Adegoke expressed concern over the proliferation of checkpoints on the route, which he noted had become excessive. The meeting resolved to reduce the number of checkpoints to four: Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point, and Agbara Point.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Umma Ayuba, stated yesterday that the newly established task force would include representatives from the Nigerian Army, Customs Service, Immigration Service (NIS), Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and Police Force.

“The security meeting addressed the need to curb the excessive checkpoints and restore sanity along the Seme Border Corridor to promote economic growth,” Ayuba said. She added that the task force would ensure compliance with the agreed checkpoints and strengthen collaboration among security agencies to combat crime.

The decision aims to balance ensuring security and facilitating economic activities along the busy route. Residents and commuters are encouraged to report any grievances related to the checkpoints by calling 07088158606 or 09062011772.
