As part of efforts to celebrate the International Press Freedom Day 2018, the Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ), in collaboration with Enetis communication will be organising a maiden NUJ press freedom awards 2018 to motivate journalists in order to promote press freedom, good governance and democracy in Nigeria.

The awards, which is in three categories, would be given to bloggers, print and electronic journalists, who have faced harassment, physical injury, imprisonment, death and have displayed extraordinary courage in their line of duties.

According to a press statement signed by Shuaibu Leman, NUJ National secretary, seasoned media organisations that have shown exceptional strength of character and provided platforms for journalists to practice their craft would be given Life Time Achievements Awards.

Also, Political office holders who have actively supported press freedom would be given Distinguished Friends of the Press Awards.
The awards night and dinner, which is billed for May 3, 2018 at Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja by 5pm, will feature a distinguished guest speaker who will deliver lecture on Press Freedom, Democracy and Nation Building in Nigeria.
