Osinbajo, Amaechi, 500,000 others for Uyo motor show

Organiser of Uyo International Motor Show, Southfield Technologies has that Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and about 500,000 trade visitors are expected to grace the debut of the show in June.

Presenting plans ahead of the event in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer, Southfield Technologies, Charles Essien said that the show, which was organised in conjunction with the Government of Akwa-Ibom State and Le Meriden Hotel targets to drive development in the automobile value chain in West African.

“Noteworthy is the fact that this event will drop usual but familiar ‘shop show’ grab of our ‘competitors’ whereby indigenous companies are promoted and publicised at the expense of internationally renowned logos. We shall keep the business strictly to internationally acceptable standards,” Essien said.

According to him, the show will play host to 50 franchised, showcase new cars, trucks and dealers and feature more than 500 new vehicles, trucks, SUVs and minis as well as purpose vehicles.

Essien stated that the 10-day motor show would be a standard consumer automotive show that would feature an exhibit-by-enterprise policy, bringing real time experience and performance that will attract institutions and stakeholders.

He said: “The show will integrate the West Africa sub-region into the global international automobile calendar, notwithstanding how small the market share is, every market share is important for the manufacturer.

“We would also have an ECOWAS Car of the Year (COTY) award in 10 broad categories, which include mini cars, large cars, executive cars, sport cars.The car that wins will be placed on displace within the Le Meridian lobby for a period of one year, until the next winner emerges in 2017.”

According to him, the show will also be televised live by prime broadcast organisations to reach millions of home across the region.

He stated that the event which was scheduled to hold from June 24 to July second will showcase the latest in automobile designs, styles and technology and divulge issues around safety and environmental precautions, as well as product enhancements and standards.
