14-year-old Spelling Bee champion, Oreoluwa, advocates for girls in tech, leadership

After beating 31,999 students to emerged one-day Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Nigeria, 14-year-old Oreoluwa Alayande unveiled has used her unveiling to lend her voice in advocating for more opportunities for girls in education, technology, and leadership development.

The MTN Spelling Bee competition is one of our initiatives at MNT to support the educational sector and encourage school students aged 9-15 to develop the requisite skills to succeed in today’s world; from digital literacy, to self-confidence, public speaking, fostering healthy competition, and developing their vocabulary.

The SS 2 student of Saint Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ade-Ekiti, Ekiti State, said empowering young girls with digital skills and confidence will help prepare them for the future and create a lasting impact in our society.

Miss Alayande emerged winner of 2025 MTN mPulse Spelling Bee held on November 29, 2025 out of 32,000 participants in Nigeria.

Speaking at the unveiling at the MTN Plaza in Falomo, Lagos, Alayande said emerging MTN’s One-Day CEO is a dream she never imagined would come true.

“I am a young girl, and this is truly an honour. Leading the largest ICT Company in Nigeria is not something many 14-year-olds think about, but MTN Nigeria is making it possible for every child out there to dream.

She said winning the MTN mPulse Spelling Bee has been one of the most exciting and life-changing moments of her life and she’s deeply honoured and grateful for the opportunity it has given her as she stepped into the role as the MTN CEO for a Day. The anticipation has filled me with pride, joy, and a strong sense of responsibility.

“This opportunity means so much more to me because it goes beyond winning a competition. It represents hard work, dedication, and the power of believing in oneself. Through the MNT mPulse Spelling Bee, I have learned that excellence, discipline, and perseverance truly pay off.”

MTN has taught me the importance of technology and education working together. Through digital platforms like the mPulse website, students like me can access free learning tools, practice tests, and vocabulary resources-helping us grow beyond the classroom.”

When I registered for the MTN mPulse spelling bee competition in 2025, I never expected to get this far. I am grateful to God and to everyone who supported me to get here.

“As I share my voice during my time as CEO for a Day, I would love to advocate for more opportunities for girls in education, technology, and leadership development. The future belongs to those who embrace technology and never stop learning.

“This initiative has been life changing for me. Personally, I have developed skills to help me in my journey as a student. The resources available for practice on the mPulse website helped me not only in the competition but as a student.
