Disturbed by the low technology opportunities for young girls and women in underserved communities, a technology expert, Adetogun Samuel Adegunju has pledged to bridge the gap through the Moremi Techstars Foundation.
According to him, his aim is to equip girls and women with relevant technology skills to enable them to compete, innovate and thrive in a fast-evolving digital economy.
His approach he said combines technical training with mentorship, exposure and confidence-building initiatives designed to prepare participants for real-world opportunities.
Under his leadership, the foundation has developed programmes focused on software development, digital literacy, data and analytical skills, emerging technologies, as well as innovation and problem-solving.
Beyond classroom instruction, the initiative emphasises practical application, encouraging participants to move from being passive users of technology to active creators.
Adegunju maintains that empowering women with technology skills has a multiplier effect on communities.
According to him, when women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they not only transform their personal circumstances but also contribute meaningfully to economic and social development.
He stated that in a bid to broaden participants’ perspectives, the foundation has also facilitated sessions with international technology leaders.
One of such engagements featured Syeda Khadijah the Phool Khadija, a mentor with Techstars, who addressed participants on global innovation trends and emerging opportunities for women in technology.
During the session, Khadijah shared insights into how women across different regions are leveraging technology to build careers, launch startups and solve pressing societal challenges. The engagement, organisers said, provided participants with exposure to global best practices and reinforced the message that women have a growing and significant role in the technology ecosystem.
By combining technical training with mentorship and exposure, the initiative aims to dismantle stereotypes and inspire girls to pursue leadership roles within the tech space.
Through workshops, mentorship programmes and international collaborations, Adegunju and the Moremi Techstars Foundation are positioning young Nigerian women to participate actively in the digital economy.
The goal remains clear; creating pathways that enable girls and women not only to enter the tech industry, but to shape its future,” Adegunju said.
