Childhood influence
My childhood had a profound influence on shaping my current self and role. The leadership experiences I encountered throughout my school years greatly contributed to igniting my passion for empowering others and making a positive impact. These leadership roles began during my primary school years and continued through A Levels, where I held positions such as Head Girl and class prefect.

My upbringing was guided by parents who purposefully mentored me to become an adaptable leader, unafraid of acquiring new knowledge and sharing it with others. Their guidance instilled in me a strong sense of responsibility and a desire to continuously learn and grow. These formative experiences have been instrumental in shaping my present capabilities and approach.

The inspiration behind Momentswithbren Consulting
Momentswithbren Consulting emerged from a deep-seated desire within me to drive meaningful and lasting transformation. This was rooted in a culmination of personal experiences, aspirations and a vision for impactful change. As I navigated through the various phases of my life, from childhood leadership roles to educational pursuits and professional endeavours, a common thread emerged: the profound influence that guidance, mentorship and strategic learning can have on individual growth and collective progress.

Witnessing firsthand the transformative power of education, coupled with the guidance I received from educators and mentors who believed in my potential, ignited a burning desire to create something extraordinary. I wanted to establish a platform that not only imparts knowledge but also fosters holistic development, encourages critical thinking and inspires innovation.

The name “Momentswithbren” encapsulates the idea that every interaction, every engagement, can be a pivotal moment that shapes someone’s journey. It symbolises the significance of these moments in nurturing learning, personal evolution and the pursuit of excellence. My motivation to support students in securing funding, launching their careers and navigating the Canadian landscape is deeply rooted in my belief in the transformative power of education and opportunity. I am driven by the conviction that every young individual deserves a chance to explore their potential, make informed choices and achieve their aspirations.

Witnessing the challenges many students face when it comes to accessing education and entering the workforce inspired me to take action. I recognise that the journey from education to employment is a critical juncture, and I am committed to equipping students with the tools they need to make that transition successfully.

My passion for creating impactful learning experiences led me to develop comprehensive programmes that not only provide academic guidance but also nurture essential life skills. I understand that succeeding in today’s world requires more than just academic excellence – it demands resilience, self-confidence, a growth mindset, adaptability, emotional intelligence and practical know-how.

Central to my approach is the commitment to providing access to career pathways, job-related skill training, social and emotional competencies and cross-generational networking. These elements are vital not only for education but also for transitioning into the workforce, ensuring that young individuals possess the skills to effectively navigate the job market.

Throughout my journey, I’ve provided college and career readiness coaching to a diverse range of students across Canada, Africa and worldwide, helping them to secure an impressive $130 million in college funding. Additionally, I wrote a Funding Directory “Ameketuni” offering invaluable college readiness financial resources valued at $446 billion. This resource empowers diverse learners, educators, researchers, changemakers, innovators and community builders to thrive throughout their learning journey and successfully achieve their long-term goals.

My commitment to enhancing learning experiences spans classrooms, workplaces and communities, and I possess a unique talent for designing targeted learning solutions that address pertinent career, community and business demands. My passion lies in creating opportunities for diverse individuals to explore various career paths, receive relevant training and develop the skills needed to excel in their chosen fields. By doing so, I hope to contribute to a generation of empowered, skilled and confident professionals who are poised to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.

The journey so far
The journey since launching Momentswithbren has been incredibly rewarding. Witnessing the impact of our services on individuals, organisations and communities has been fulfilling. Each success story reaffirms the importance of our work. Notably, our use of design sprints has led to remarkable achievements, like helping an EdTech startup secure $9.3 million in funding. We’ve also assisted charitable organisations in securing millions in grants. Challenges have spurred growth and innovation. Our network of collaborators and their dedication have enriched our mission. As we move forward, our focus remains on fostering meaningful change through education, guidance and empowerment.

For instance, working with organisations like the Canadian Council for Youth Prosperity empowers youth and shapes strategies for success. Involvement with Immigrant Women Services Ottawa supports immigrant women’s integration and growth. Participating on the Students Commission of Canada board connects me with youth voices, deepening my understanding and advocacy for their needs.

These board experiences broadened my perspective, refined my leadership skills and amplified my commitment to positive change. They reinforce that collaborative effort with a shared vision to create a more inclusive, empowered society.

Supporting the Nigerian community in Canada
My role in supporting the Nigerian community in Canada involves aiding newcomers as they navigate their settlement and career paths. This encompasses assisting them with accessing vital services, securing appropriate employment and connecting with community resources across provinces. During my tenure at a previous job with an immigrant-serving organisation in Ottawa, I provided personalised employment support services, including to Nigerian women. This experience has offered valuable lessons in cultural sensitivity and empathy.

Through this engagement, I have learned that understanding each individual’s distinct journey, along with their background, challenges and aspirations, is paramount for effective support. Building trust and rapport within the community has proven pivotal in cultivating an inclusive environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking guidance.

Moreover, working closely with the Nigerian community has emphasised the importance of promoting intercultural understanding and embracing diversity. Valuing and appreciating different perspectives enriches our society, facilitating collaboration and collective prosperity. This experience has been an enlightening journey that underscores my commitment to fostering meaningful opportunities for newcomers to flourish and succeed in their new homes.

Thoughts on Nigerians’ migration to Canada

Every client brings unique circumstances, demanding careful planning and a deep understanding to ensure our guidance aligns with their specific goals.

Resource constraints often require creative thinking. Despite limited funding and time, I strive to deliver impactful outcomes, reminding me that effective solutions stem from strategic thinking rather than vast resources.

Cultural sensitivity is crucial when working with diverse groups. Building trust and rapport means ensuring our guidance resonates with different values and expectations. Clear communication, especially across language barriers, is essential to convey complex ideas effectively.

Staying current with evolving trends in education, employment and immigration is vital to provide accurate guidance. Overcoming resistance to change and managing expectations are ongoing challenges that require effective communication and transparency.

Despite these obstacles, the reward of witnessing positive transformations far outweighs the difficulties. The joy of helping individuals, communities and organisations thrive fuels my passion. Each challenge is an opportunity for growth, innovation and unwavering commitment to positive change.
