Nnamdi-Okagbue schools next generation on software engineering

Experienced software engineer Ifeanyi Nnamdi-Okagbue has written and released an e-book titled Building a Career in Software Engineering to educate the next generation on the realities, possibilities and challenges of a career in software engineering.

Software engineering is a discipline that applies engineering principles to design, develop, test and maintain software applications that we use on our smartphones and computer devices. With over one hundred million internet users in Nigeria, it’s a growing field, offering both opportunities for education and employment.

Commenting on why he wrote the e-book, Nnamdi-Okagbue said, “Over the years, I’ve often been asked, “How did you build a career in software engineering?” My journey has been a blend of challenges, opportunities, and deliberate learning. Starting as a trainee, I’ve navigated the complexities of software engineering, faced interviews with tech giants, led teams, and grown into an engineering manager role.

I think I have some lessons for aspiring software engineers. In software engineering, career growth isn’t just about learning the latest framework or programming language; it’s about understanding how to solve problems, collaborate effectively, and evolve with the industry.”

For more than fifteen years, Ifeanyi Nnamdi-Okagbue has built and led high-performing engineering teams across some of Africa’s top technology companies, including Interswitch, AXA Mansard and Cavista, shaping impactful products used by millions. He is also the founder of ifeanyiokagbue.com, an engineering and technology blog.
