I owe you too much to have a secret wedding — Toke Makinwa

Popular media influencer and TV host, Toke Makinwa debunks wedding rumours with Farouk Umar.

She made this known on October 21, 2024, on her X page.

On Sunday, October 21, 2024, rumours spread like a wildfire that the TV host and author was legally hooked in a secret wedding with her supposed lover, the entertainment expert, Farouk Umar, at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island.

This was after a video of the duo, who wore a white dress and ‘buba and sokoto’, sharing lovey-dovey moments went viral.

Contrary to the above, Toke wrote: “I owe you all my friends and family too much to have a secret wedding, you all have been through everything with me so know this from me, it was a Thanksgiving Day and nothing more.”

On January 15, 2014, Makinwa married Maje Ayida whom she had been involved with for eight years prior to their wedding. However, in 2015, she and her lover got separated.

On October 5, 2017, Toke’s marriage to Ayida was dissolved by a Lagos High Court on the ground of infidelity. Toke, on the other hand, has been dragged about her divorce with her ex-husband but she has maintained a calm approach to the issue.

Instead of dwelling on rumours, the Lagos state born has been actively pursuing her career and personal goals. She continues to be a sought-after TV host, entrepreneur, and influencer. Her brand, “Toke Makinwa,” has become synonymous with style, empowerment, and success.
