Ibadan indigenes and guests turned out in full colour and culture at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, last Saturday for the grand finale of the 2026 Ibadan Cultural Festival.

From the moment guests stepped into the venue, the energy was unmistakable. Drums filled the stadium, voices rose in chants, and everywhere you turned, there was colour, pride and presence.

One of the standout moments of the day was the appearance of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin Ladoja, seated in royal calm, dressed in white with coral beads and holding his traditional horsetail. His presence alone reminded everyone that this was more than a festival. It was history still alive.

Another highlight was the appearance of Nollywood actor Fatai Adetayo, popularly known as Lalude, who stood out in full traditional costume and carried the spirit of old Yoruba storytelling. His symbolic look drew reactions from the crowd and added more cultural touch to the event.

Across the venue, the fashion told its own story. Women stepped out in coordinated aso oke, gele and beads, with some holding decorative fans inscribed with “Omo Ibadan.” Men appeared in rich agbada and fila, each outfit carefully styled. It felt like a moving exhibition of heritage.

There were also performances that brought the past into the present. Drummers played talking drums with precision, while performers in traditional costumes reenacted old warrior movements, pulling the crowd deeper into the experience.
