In a tweet, Chart Data wrote, “All six of [Missy Elliott’s] studio albums are now certified [RIAA] Platinum or higher, the most among female rappers.”

Quoting the tweet, the Work It rapper shared her excitement at the news.

“This is a HUGE MILESTONE,” Missy Eliott wrote.

“No matter how long it took to get here, I am here & I AM HUMBLY GRATEFUL.”

The certified projects include Supa Dupa Fly (released in 1997), Da Real World (1999), Miss E…So Addictive (2001), Under Construction (2002), This Is Not A Test (2003)and The Cookbook (2005).

A pioneer of female Hip Hop and R&B, groundbreaking songwriter-producer, and across-the-board cultural icon, Missy Elliot also paid tribute to her fellow “sisters in Hip Hop” while commemorating her success.

She continued, “To all my SISTERS in HIPHOP yall keep doing yall thang & SHINING.”

A five-time Grammy-award winner, Missy Eliott’s music career started in 1991 when she formed an all-female R&B group Fayze with her neighbourhood friend Timothy Mosley, AKA Timbaland.

Often described as the “Queen of Rap”, “Queen of Hip Hop”, and “First Lady of Hip Hop,” Missy Elliot’s catalogue focuses on feminism, gender equality, body positivity and sex positivity, being one of the first to touch on these topics among hip-hop and R&B performers.
