Nothing Burna Boy does surprises me, he’s fearless — Timaya
Nigerian Singer, Inetimi Alfred, aka Timaya, has revealed that Grammy-winning artiste, Burna Boy, once asked singers Omawumi and Waje to leave a studio session after they doubted his prediction that he would one day be paid to fly in private jets.
In an interview with Naija FM, Lagos, on Monday, December 2, 2024, Timaya described Burna Boy’s confidence during the session, a trait that has shaped his rise to global fame.
According to him, Burna Boy confidently declared that a day would come when he would be paid to fly in private jets. At the time, such an idea seemed far-fetched for Nigerian musicians.

“Omawumi and Waje didn’t take him seriously,” Timaya said, recalling their reactions.
“Nothing Burna Boy is doing now surprises me. The guy is fearless. There was one time when Burna Boy, Omawumi, Waje and I were in the studio, and he [Burna Boy] started saying that a time would come when he would be getting paid to enter jet. Omawumi and Waje started doubting him because then Nigerian artistes hadn’t started flying private jets. He got angry and opened the studio door and asked them to leave.”
Burna Boy’s confidence back then, even in the face of doubt, is now a testament to his journey to global stardom.
On his relationship with Eedris Abdulkareem, Timaya clarified, “I have never had any problem with Eedris. It was just a relationship of a boss and apprentice. I don’t even think he knew my name at that time. I only gave him a shoutout because he was part of my success story.
“We don’t have any reason to communicate. When I was serving in his band, he didn’t have any reason to build a relationship with me. When people are serving you, don’t act like you’re tolerating them; treat them like family because you don’t know tomorrow.”
