Stanley Nwabali loses mother, weeks after father’s passing
Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, is mourning again as he loses his mother, barely a month after the death of his father.
The heartbroken 27-year-old, who currently plays for Chippa United in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League, took to social media on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, to announce the devastating news.
In a brief but emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), Nwabali wrote, “Rip mom,” adding, “worst year of my life already.”
Before that, Nwabali had posted, “A very very crazy world indeed”.
He lost his father just over a month ago. This happened a few hours before the Super Eagles match against Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification game in mid-November.
Despite sharing his pain publicly, the goalkeeper, did not disclose details about his mother’s passing.
Known for his quick reflexes and calm composure between the posts, Nwabali had earned praise for his performances with Chippa United, where he continues to make his mark in African football.
He was also recently honored with the Member of the Order of the Niger (M.O.N) for his contributions to Nigerian sports.
Football enthusiasts and well-wishers across the country have since poured in messages of condolence, offering support to the young goalkeeper during this difficult time.
As the nation rallies around Nwabali, many are reminded of the importance of family and the resilience required to navigate personal loss.
