The video, released by the South and North Development research institute, depicts the handcuffing of the teens in front of a large stadium, serving as a cautionary tale to fellow citizens against consuming foreign media.
The research group, including defectors from North Korea, emphasizes the consequences faced by those who defy the ban on foreign influences.
This incident is part of North Korea’s “Reactionary Thought and Culture Denunciation” law, implemented two years ago, which prohibits foreign cell phones, South Korean, Japanese, and American entertainment, as well as South Korean slang.
Human Rights Watch reports that violators may face severe punishments, including forced labor or the death penalty.
As lifestyle dynamics clash with political restrictions, the heightened tension on the Korean peninsula further underscores the complexities of daily life.
