Tems, Rema land spots on Obama’s 2024 Summer Playlist
Temilade Openiyi, known by her stage name Tems, and Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, are the only Nigerian artists featured on Barack Obama’s 2024 summer playlist.
Each year, the former US president curates and shares a list of his favourite tracks spanning various musical genres.
On Monday, Obama unveiled the 2024 summer playlist, consisting of 44 songs, in a post on X. Among the selections, Tems’ Love Me Jeje and Rema’s Yayo represent the Nigerian contributions on the list.
The playlist also features tracks like Them Belly Full by Bob Marley & The Wailers, Texas Hold ‘Em by Beyoncé, You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me by The Miracles, and Wanna Be by Megan Thee Stallion featuring GloRilla.

In sharing the 2024 Summer Playlist playlist, Obama expressed his hope that people discover new music from his selections. “With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately—and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to,” he wrote with the tracks list.
Rema, known for his hit Dumebi, has blended Afrobeats with trap and pop. Meanwhile, Tems, celebrated for Try Me and her feature on Wizkid’s Essence, has captivated audiences with her sound.
