Anxiety is a mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities and cause the sufferer to demonstrate behavioral and functional disturbances as a result.

When feeling anxious a person may have negative or disturbing thoughts. On an emotional level, one may feel scared or out of control. It is also common to experience severe anxiety by sweating, trembling, or shortness of breath.
Mental health is extremely important and as such it needs to be addressed and properly handled. Prior to speaking to a medical professional for severe cases, these are a few ways to cope with anxiety;

1. Stop and Breathe: When anxiety flares, take time out and think about what it is that is making you so nervous. Anxiety is typically experienced as worrying about a future or past event. You need to step back, take a minute and let yourself breathe. Excessively worrying about a subject never changes the outcome so you might as well try and stay calm.

2. Figure out your Triggers: In order to get to the root of your anxiety, you need to figure out what’s bothering you. To get to the bottom of your anxiety, put some time aside to exploring your thoughts and feelings. Thoughts that trigger anxiety can vary from school, to social functions, to the workplace or confrontation, all of which are valid and need to be addressed so you can move on to a better mental space.

3. Separate Reality From Fears: Many times anxiety stems from fearing things that haven’t even happened and may never occur. With that being said, you need to understand that life is unpredictable and unforeseen events will happen but you cant let those thoughts steal so much of your time away.
