Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has become a household name for his blunt takes on celebrities, politicians, and social issues.
But his outspoken nature has repeatedly landed him in trouble with the police.
Here’s a look at four notable times VDM found himself facing arrest:
March 2024: Arrested for cyberbullying
In March 2024, VDM was arrested over allegations of cyberbullying and cyberstalking.
He was accused of making false claims against actress Tonto Dikeh and Iyabo Ojo.
The court remanded him in custody until his hearing on May 29, 2024. He was released after spending two weeks in detention.
October 2024: Detained over police uniform video
In October 2024, a video showing VDM wearing a police uniform went viral and drew heavy criticism.
The Nigerian Police invited him for questioning, and his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, later confirmed that VDM was detained despite honouring the invitation.
He was eventually freed, but the incident stirred mixed reactions online.
March 2025: Arrest warrant in Mercy Chinwo case
In March 2025, an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court issued a bench warrant for VDM’s arrest over alleged defamation of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The warrant came after VDM failed to appear in court on March 5, 2025.
However, he was not arrested despite the order.
May 2025: Arrested in Abuja
On May 2, 2025, according to his legal representative, Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan was arrested by EFCC operatives right inside GTBank premises.
Adeyanju, who confirmed the arrest on social media and called it “unacceptable,” added that demanding accountability should not be treated as a crime.
