10-year-old girl seeks N18.5m for cancer treatment

The family of Kennedy Iboi has appealed for N18.5 million to fund the treatment of their 10-year-old daughter, Sharon, who is battling blood cancer at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Ekpoma, Edo State.

According to Mr Kennedy, Sharon fell ill in August 2024, and initial treatments were unsuccessful. Medical tests later revealed she had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (L2 morphology) after a bone marrow biopsy.

A medical report from the hospital indicated that Sharon’s condition includes leucopenia with a white blood cell count of 3,600/mm³ and an absolute neutrophil count of 918/mm³. Her treatment plan involves chemotherapy in three phases over a period of two to three years.

Mr Iboi disclosed that the family has sold all their properties to cover the initial costs of Sharon’s treatment but is now unable to afford further chemotherapy sessions.

Sharon’s mother, a midwife at a private hospital earning N40,000 monthly, expressed the family’s hardship, noting that Sharon has spent Christmas and New Year in the hospital.

Through the ‘Gifting Volunteer Network’, Mr Iboi appealed for public support to save his daughter.

“We have borrowed and sold everything we own, yet we are now in debt. Sharon is just 10 years old. We need all the help we can get to continue her treatment. No amount is too small to support Sharon,” he pleaded.
The father can be reached on 0814 020 6688, while donations can be sent to Sharon’s account: Sterling Bank, Account Number: 0102592446, Account Name: Iboi Sharon Onosetale.
