19-year-old Osondu needs N15 million for kidney transplant

After finding a suitable donor, 19-year-old Chinonso Osondu is currently in need of a sum of N15 million for renal transplant.

After finding a suitable donor, 19-year-old Chinonso Osondu is currently in need of a sum of N15 million for renal transplant.

Osondu, who was diagnosed with the disease last year while in school had to endure hardship after his parents were asked to pick him from Bells University where he was studying Biomedical Engineering.

The young man who came to The Guardian in the company of his father, Osondu Ajuzie Chizoba, pleaded with the public to assist on the money needed for the transplant to enable Osondu get back on his feet and return to school.

According to a medical report by Dialyzer Special Medical Centre, Oshodi, Lagos, the young man was referred to the facility on February 1, 2022 on account of recurrent facial puffiness and Deranged kidney profile.

“He is currently being managed for end stage renal disease secondary to Reflux Nephropathy. He has had several dialysis sessions. He is currently on twice weekly maintenance dialysis and erythropoietin stimulating agents.

He has been reviewed by the urologist and nephrologist. “He will benefit from a kidney transplant. The cost of a kidney transplant is N15 million

His father told The Guardian: “My brother-in-law decided that he will donate to him, we met with the doctors and they confirmed that all the matching tests were positive. They have booked Chinonso’s transplant surgery at at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, on or before February 21, 2023.

“We informed them that we are not ready financially, but they said it has to be done now to avoid repeating the series of tests.

We did series of test before it was confirmed that he’s suffering from kidney failure. We have spent N6 million.

“We are pleading with Nigerians to assist us financially for the kidney operation on him. We need N15 million for the operation so he can go back to school.”

Speaking with The Guardian, a doctor at Dialyzer Special Medical Centre, Oshodi, Dr. Emmanuel Abusi, said: “We have been attending to Chinonso for two years and we have been managing him for chronic kidney disease. He has been advised on renal transplant.
