2019: IRI trains PDP, APC leaders on effective party management, campaigns
The International Republican Institute (IRI) has trained officials of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, on how to effectively use communications skills to manage their parties and win votes without heating the polity.
The workshop, tagged: “ Strategies to improve party communication,” according to the Resident Programme Officer, Mrs. Husna Hassan, was designed for leaders of political parties to understand the power of effective communication during and after their campaigns and how communication can strengthen party leadership in Nigeria.
Hassan blamed Nigeria’s chaotic democratic system on lack of political parties’ supremacy. The inability of political parties to take control of leaders elected on their platforms for effective running of government affairs.
Hassan noted that PDP and APC should design their blueprints strictly based on the demands of their various states, since all the 36 states do not have the same challenges and that the party leaders should always compel their elected office holders to abide by the manifestoes of their parties.
She said: “Strong party -based communication can provide vital avenues for public participation. Interact with citizens on party platforms and connect leaders and elected officials around common programme.”
The Organising Secretary of Adamawa PDP, Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali, commended the officials of IRI for the seminar, noting that the party would use the knowledge to build solid campaign strategies.
The APC Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, said his party would take full advantage of the experience to mobilise its members.
