The Senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Ekiti North, Funso Ayeni has raised the alarm over alleged destruction of the party campaign office located at Ido Ekiti by political thugs believe to be working for an opposition party.
Ayeni who spoke to newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said that the destruction of the campaign office took place barely 48 hours after it was commissioned.
The ADC chieftain called on the police and other security agencies to investigate and expose those behind the willful damage of the campaign office and bring them to book.
He said that political disagreement should never be allowed to degenerate into harassment, intimidation and destruction of property.
“I believe Ekiti must not walk the road of political violence. I am here today not only to merely inspect the damaged office, but to draw the attention to the development that should concern every peace-loving citizen of Ekiti State, and in particular, Ekiti North’s Senatorial District.
“Whatever the circumstances surrounding the damage to this office is, political disagreement
must never become a pathway to destruction and intimidation or violence.
“Ekiti state is too knowledgeable, too educated and too politically conscious to allow such a culture
to take root. We have seen in Osun state how the destruction of campaign materials and political
political property became part of a broader atmosphere of political tension and violence with subsequent attacks and loss of lives reported during the 2016 electoral period.
“We must learn from it and not repeat the painful experience in Ekiti . I therefore call on the relevant security and law enforcement authority to investigate what happened here.
“Political competition should actually be about ideas it should be about programs it should be about records and the service we have we have to offer our people not destruction of one’s property
“I will continue to advocate for peaceful issue-based and responsible political environment in Ekiti North and across the state. my foot prints and contribution to both human development in our community are indelible, they are undeniable and you cannot even destroy them.
“let us disagree without destroying, let us compete without violence and let us ensure that the 2017 political season is remembered for ideas, for accountability and not for intimidation and not for destruction and not
for bloodshed.
“I want to appeal to all my followers in the Ekiti North
Senatorial District not to take law into their hands. Please remain calm as we pass through this season,” he said.
