Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 elections in Enugu State, Chief Uche Nnaji has signed a covenant with the people of Enugu State to govern for a term of four years if elected to office.

 

Uche Nnaji stated that the singing of the single term was in keeping with the rotation agreement of the state that had seen governorship position move round the three Senatorial zones, adding that it was part of his promise to the people of the state.

 

Nnaji, a former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, signed the document during a civic reception held in his honour at Akpugo, Nkanu East Local government area of the state.

 

The governorship hopeful, who was earlier received by a rousing crowd of supporters on arrival at the Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu, insisted that four years was enough for him to reposition Enugu State for the benefit of the people.

 

He reemphaised that any government that was focused should be people -centered, stressing that the people of Enugu must reap the benefits of belonging to the state.

 

He said: “This is my administration’s covenant outlining a vision and guiding principles for the recovery, rebuilding, and industrialisation of Enugu State.

 

“I will recover, I will rebuild, and I will industrialise the Enugu state. This shall be the guiding principles of the administration.

 

“One term means total focus. I will not seek re-election. Every day will be devoted to governing and delivering measurable results. The people come first. Every major decision shall be guided by the question, will this improve the lives of the people of Enugu state?

 

“I will ensure prudent management of public resources, transparency in government finances, and accountability in the execution of public projects.

 

“I will prioritise security to guarantee the safety of lives, property, and investment across the Enugu states.

 

“I will create an enabling environment for investment, industries, SMEs, and innovation to generate sustainable jobs for our youth. I will deliver a functional infrastructure that improves everyday life. I will maintain open, continuous engagement with all stakeholders. I will be accessible to the people”.

 

Nnaji, told the crowd that gathered at the event that he would create equal opportunities for all, adding that he would promote fairness, inclusion, and justice for every community without discrimination of any kind.

 

“I will leave Enugu better than I met it, but I will leave a legacy of impact, integrity, and improved lives.

 

“This covenant shall take effect upon my election as governor and shall remain for the term of four years after which the mandate returns to the people. I agreed to be accountable to the people of Enugu state and history for the fulfillment of this covenant”, he added

 

Nnaji stated that he feels very uncomfortable with the scale of taxation introduced by the incumbent administration in the state even with the rise in federal allocations.

 

Explaining that the taxes had brought hardships with increased cost of living, he said if elected he would make the people his focus.

 

“It is the people and nothing more. We will promote the welfare of the people of Enugu State. We will ensure that their priority counts in anything we want to do,” he promised.
