Over 69,828 candidates, yesterday, sat for the 2022 Common Entrance Examination of National Examination Council (NECO), into the 104 Federal Government colleges, also known as unity schools.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this to newsmen while monitoring the exercise, observed that the examination was running smoothly across the federation.

Represented by the ministry’s permanent secretary, David Adejo Andrew, the minister said: “This year, we have about 69,828 applicants and it is a good thing to note that there are more female applicants than the males. Of the 69,828 applications, we have 36,855 female applicants.”

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, who said the extension of the examination by one week actually boosted the enrollment, revealed that only 74 candidates registered for the examination in Kebbi State, the lowest this year.

The registrar further said that Lagos State had the highest number of candidates, with 19,516 applicants.

He said: “So far, from the report I got from the different locations, everything is going fine.”
