The African Action Congress (AAC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to permit it to inaugurate the Presidential Campaign Council of its candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on November 11, 2026, as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated October 21 and signed by its National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the party also requested food, drinks and logistical support for 5,000 participants expected at the event.

The AAC said its request was based on multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of parties, saying that public institutions should not be reserved for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The request comes amid growing political mobilisation for the election, even as concerns mount over the credibility of the polls and the administration’s handling of economic hardship.

However, former senator representing Ogun Central, Femi Okurounmu, has expressed doubts about Nigeria’s democratic system, saying opposition parties have failed to convince Nigerians that they can offer a credible alternative to the APC.

Okurounmu said that the country’s challenges went beyond the performance of Tinubu’s administration, questioning whether the existing political structure could adequately address its fundamental problems.

He also raised concerns about alleged favouritism in federal appointments and called for fairness in addressing regional grievances.

Similarly, the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has warned that inflammatory political statements, economic hardship and doubts about electoral fairness could threaten the credibility of the 2027 general elections and national stability.

The Forum’s Leader, Malaolu, urged Tinubu to caution his supporters against statements capable of heightening political tension.

He said many Nigerians were judging the administration by their experiences of rising living costs and hardship rather than its explanations of economic reforms.

Malaolu also warned against attempts to undermine the electoral process or reject unfavourable results, urging political leaders, particularly in the South-West, to defend democratic principles and demand credible elections.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of federal parastatals, led by Director-General of the National Board for Technology Incubation, Dr Kazeem Kolawole Raji, have formed a coalition to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, adding another platform to the APC’s mobilisation efforts.
