The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ferguson Dukas Bobai yesterday handed over to a new Flag Officer, Rear Admiral Sylvanus Aba at the NNS BEECROFT parade ground, Apapa Lagos.

The outgoing naval boss is to resume in Abuja as the Chief of Training and Operations in naval headquarters.

During his valedictory speech at the parade ground, Bobai noted that the handover marked the cumulative point of his tenure as the 36th Flag Officer commanding in Western Naval Command, Lagos.

Bobai said he would be operating with all naval commands in Nigeria and appealed to Nigerians to pray for the quick recovery of the Commander-in-Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sylvanus Aba, who addressed newsmen stated that the job of the Nigerian navy is a constitutional responsibility given to all naval officers.

‘’We must carry out our responsibility because we have sworn to defend this country by land, air and sea,’’ he said.

‘’The responsibility in land defense is for the Nigerian Army, while that of air is for Nigerian Air force and that of ocean is for the Nigerian Navy. Hence, we must carry out the mandate.’’ he added.

Rear Admiral Aba further noted that the new dimension to crime now in the country is the kidnapping of school children in the riverine areas.

According to him, “This is the area the Western Naval command operatives must presently focus their attention as the country looks up to us to save the situation and restore sanctity to the country.”

He therefore appealed to members of the public to relate information to the appropriate security agency.
