Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, yesterday, rewarded teachers, school administrators and schools with houses and cash gifts to mark 2022 World Teachers’ Day.
He also offered employment to wife of the late Sunday Ogunjimi, a teacher in Odeda Local Council, who slumped and passed away while attending a welfare meeting involving members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state recently.
Tajudeen Odufeso from Isara Secondary School, Isara-Remo, was given a two-bedroom bungalow as the Best Teacher in Public Senior Secondary Schools, while Adelana Owolabi and Orebanjo Olusesan from Ijebu Muslim College (Junior) and Early Education Centre, Ijebu-Igbo, got N2 million and N1.5 million for emerging Best Teachers in Public Junior Secondary Schools and Public Primary Schools, respectively, among others.
The governor, at the event held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, described teachers as career moulders, mentors and national builders.
SIMILARLY, Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday, lauded teachers across the world and in the state, saying no nation can develop without them.
The governor, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode, also appreciated Osun teachers for aligning with the vision of the administration.
THE Oyo State Government has approved the absorption of 2,000 primary school teachers, initially seconded to the Post-Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in the state during the previous administration of Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
Chairman, TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu, disclosed this, yesterday, during the celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
MEANWHILE, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, has said that trained and qualified teachers are fundamental to the transformation of a vibrant and qualitative education sector of Oyo State.
He stated this in his goodwill message to mark this year’s World Teacher’s Day.
ALSO, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has described teachers as the most important professionals in any society.
Obasa, who stated this, yesterday, in Agege where he joined other well-meaning Lagosians to celebrate the 2022 World Teachers Day, said that no sane society could undermine the value of those in the teaching profession.
The Speaker added that the importance of teaching could be more appreciated with an understanding that through it, many other professions are born.
He commended the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Lagos for making the state proud and for sustaining the relationship between the body and the state government.
He further promised that the state would continue to do its best to meet the welfare of those in the profession, who he described as mentors.
“I want to congratulate you on this day and to further join you in this celebration of your day. It is good that you have a day to celebrate yourselves.
“We all know the importance of teachers in a society. In fact, no sane society can undermine teachers.
“That is why we must all appreciate your roles in our lives. We all have kids and we know what it takes to care for them. That also makes us conscious of what you do for our kids.
“No amount of commendation can actually pay you for all that you do. We all passed through you growing up. Without you, we won’t be what we are and that is why I pray that God will reward you and your family more than how we appreciate you.
“We appreciate your support always and will always be part of you as our teachers and mentors,” Obasa said.
Earlier, the chairman of the NUT in Agege, Gbadamosi KM, thanked the Speaker for always associating with and supporting members of the union.
He also expressed the union’s support for the candidacy of the Speaker and others in the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 general election.
“These are your people, the union belongs to you. We support your candidature and those of all candidates of the APC ahead of elections,” he said.
