Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are worried over resurgence of insecurity in the seat of power.

The concern was triggered by Tuesday night’s abduction of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member and seven others in Extension 2 Relocation, on Arab Road, Kubwa area of the (FCT).

The corps member, said to be only daughter of her parents was reported kidnapped in her father’s home, while others went missing after the attack.

The Guardian learnt that two others escaped, while they were being whisked away through the hills by the abductors.

It was also gathered that the gunmen attacked a residence in the Extension 2 Relocation, on Arab Road, in Kubwa, and shot two males,  one of the gunshot victims died on the spot, while the other was rushed to the hospital.

During the attack, an eyewitness, who reached out through social media, noted that the gunmen shot sporadically at Amilomania Street and later moved to Toyin Street.

He said: “We heard gunshots twice when they first stormed a house at Amilonania Street. They’re now at Toyin Street, at the last house by the hill .

“They shot a tailor, Abel, popularly known as Oshodi, and he’s lying down dead. They also shot another male, but we took him to the Kubwa General Hospital at Phase 4, but he was unconscious. The gunmen escaped through the hill.”

Reacting to the incident, a resident of FCT and President of the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA), Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, noted that security architecture in Nigeria generally has collapsed due to corruption, indiscipline and failure of professionalism on the part of the hierarchy of the armed forces and police.

“The seamless penetration of FCT by terrorists shows that the hierarchy of the brigade of guards, the FCT police Command and the secret police have failed.

“The terrorists, who broke into Kuje prison and released terrorists and dangerous detainees are yet to be arrested. FCT is saturated by terrorists freed from Kuje prisons and the policing institution in FCT has collapsed under the heavyweight of ineffectiveness and inefficiency,” he stated.

MEANWHILE, FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh said the Command has commenced investigations into the reported security breach occasioned by armed robbery, shooting and abduction of some persons in the Kubwa Relocation Estate, off Arab Road area of the FCT on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

“The Commissioner of Police (CP), Babaji Sunday noted that the response of the Command, in an aggressive manhunt on the perpetrators, resulted in the rescue of three victims and the recovery of firearms and ammunition, including 1 AK47 Rifle, 25 Rounds of ammunition.

“Preliminary investigations however revealed that at about 1930hrs (7:30p.m.) of December 6, 2022, some armed criminals came into  Kubwa Relocation Estate, shot two victims, one Oshodi and another Abdulwahab (both other names unknown). The suspects, while departing the scene, left with four victims.

“The two gunshot victims were immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, unfortunately, one of them, Oshodi could not survive, as he was confirmed dead by the Doctor, while Abdulwahab is still being attended to.

“Meanwhile, the CP calls for calm, noting that the Command has since deployed intelligence and other operational assets to fortify security in the entire Kubwa area and its environs.

“The Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicion or untoward situation through the following numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883, while the Public Complaint Bureau (PCB) desk, could be reached through: 0902 222 2352,” she added.
