Defeat already starring at you, APC tells PDP candidate

The campaign organisation of Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the governorship election in Osun State, yesterday, alleged that the governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were colluding to rig the poll in favour of APC.

A statement, signed by Director-General, Senator Ademola Adeleke Campaign Organisation (SAACO), Sunday Bisi, said that a top aide of the governor had recently held several hours of meetings with operational officials of the electoral body in Osogbo with the aim of doctoring the list of presiding officers.

He said: “We are constrained to alert the public, the diplomatic community and all lovers of democracy worldwide that the governor, in collaboration with the electoral commission, has commenced an elaborate plot to rig the July 16 governorship elections.

“We are shocked with the barefaced reprehensible partisanship of some top officials of INEC in Osun. They act more like APC members than an unbiased electoral umpires they are statutorily mandated to be. There can be no justification for an electoral agency to be jointly determining the list of election officials. This conduct undermines the integrity of the electoral process, cast doubt on the readiness of INEC to conduct a credible election and confirms that the electoral body is still hell-bent to aid the repeat of rigging widely perpetrated in 2018.”

However, the campaign team has urged the leadership of the umpire to call his men in the state to order.
MEANWHILE, the APC in the state has denied the allegations and said Adeleke and PDP had seen defeat already.

Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the Osun APC, Kunle Oyatomi, said: “He (Adeleke) is hallucinating. He has seen defeat already staring at him. He saw that his visits to a few esteemed monarchs in the state indicated a colossal failure for him. His messages so far lack content. So, why won’t he be insulting our esteemed monarchs? He should henceforth be civil or withdraw from the race. His type should instead find means of contesting a councillorship seat in Ede.”
