Agency to strengthen health system in 2021
Executive Director of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, has said the agency would pursue Federal Government’s primary healthcare revitalisation agenda in 2021 to strengthen primary health care (PHC) and have a robust system.
Speaking at the 2020 Agency’s Service/Productivity Awards and Send Forth Ceremony, yesterday, Shuaib said the vision in the next four years was to strengthen PHC system to deliver affordable, accessible and equitable services to Nigerians.
He said: “It is in this light that we will convene a global PHC Summit in 2021, with a theme: “Strengthening PHC towards achieving universal health coverage in post-Polio, Peri-COVID era.”
“The summit’s overall goal is to galvanise stakeholders and present a compelling investment case for PHC financing, leveraging on gains made during the polio eradication to strengthen PHC systems from 2021 to 2030”.
Shuaib said despite challenges posed by the pandemic and euphoria following polio certification, the agency’s greatest assets were staffers, who worked day and night, putting in their best during the lockdown, working amidst tight schedules, working from homes, “ to ensure we achieved all we did within a very short period of time.”
He said: “ The idea of a rebranded and digitalised NPHCDA is one that has exceptional group of civil servants, who are dedicated, hardworking, transparent and patriotic…”
In a related development, Shuaib, while hosting Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Justice Sidi Muhammad Bage at its headquarters, on Friday, pledged to do more towards realisation of the agency’s mandates.
The Royal father said he was at the agency to congratulate him on his reappointment.
In a remark, the Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Board and Chairman, Forum of Executive Secretaries of States Primary Healthcare Development Boards, Dr. Adis Muhammad said, “By winning the fight against polio, Dr. Shuaib has not only made Nasarawa State and Nigeria proud, but also the entire black race.”
