Akwa Ibom government warns against APC’s alleged plot to malign governor
Akwa Ibom State government has raised the alarm over plot by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to publish a propaganda pamphlet aimed at maligning Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Charles Udoh, in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo, described the plan as ridiculous.
“The pamphlet, which we understand contains cooked up lies and slander, is another ridiculous and desperate attempt by the opposition to cast aspersions on the person of the governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
“It is imperative to state that since assumption of office, the governor of Akwa Ibom State has taken the economy of the state to a higher level by executing life-touching projects. This resulted in the state becoming the preferred destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nigeria. This fact was corroborated by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) when it listed Akwa Ibom as the state with second highest volume of FDI in Nigeria,” he stated.
Udoh also referred to Daily Independent newspaper’s recent decoration of the governor as the 2018 Governor of the Year for Foreign Direct Investment.
“It is on record that in recognition of the stellar performance of the governor of Akwa Ibom that the presidency invited the state government to make contributions to Mr. President’s mid-term report.
“Indeed, Akwa Ibom contributed the highest volume of information on achievements by any ministry, department or agency to the presidency’s publication.
Recall that he (Emmanuel) was decorated with an integrity and national service award by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, in the banquet hall of the presidential villa in Aso Rock to further underscore his strides in governance,” he said.
According to the commissioner, few days ago, the Vanguard newspapers, during its prestigious annual personality of the year awards, listed Emmanuel as ‘Governor of the Year’ for sustaining peace and prosperity in Akwa Ibom.
“These endorsements by prominent individuals and organisations within and outside the country bear testimony to the success of the current government of Akwa Ibom in driving sustainable development through people-oriented governance.
“While it is foolhardy for the opposition in the state to conceive the idea of concocting lies to malign a governor who has out-performed most first term governors in Nigeria’s history, it is gratifying to note that citizens and residents of Akwa Ibom are no longer gullible to fabricated lies.”
