The National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has said that godfatherism will play no role in selecting the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election.

He assured aspirants of a level playing field as the party seeks to unseat Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Abure made this statement when he welcomed George Moghalu, who officially obtained the party’s nomination form for the November 2025 election.

Moghalu is the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party has approved April 5, 2025, as the date for the primaries to elect the party’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

In a statement signed by the National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the timetable and schedule of activities for the primaries also indicated that the sale of expression and interest/nomination forms commenced on February 10, 2025, while the sale of delegate forms will commence on March 20, 2025.

The party advised all interested aspirants to visit its National Headquarters for guidelines on the party’s primaries and other necessary information.
