Anambra guber: PDP moves to resolve conflict
• As Ozigbo unveils Enemuo as running mate
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, has unveiled a seasoned administrator and former commissioner, Mrs. Azuka Enemuo, as his running mate in a surprise move at a town hall meeting with party’s stakeholders in Awka.
Unveiling the educationist amid cheers from supporters, party faithful and influential citizens yesterday in the state capital, Ozigbo assured the well-attended that the litigations within the PDP would be resolved in a short while.
He said a competent team of legal experts was “on top of the matter” and “the distractions would be in the past.”
He also declared that the party was ready to kick off its campaign when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares electioneering early next month.
Ozigbo urged the PDP leadership, at all levels, to seize the challenge of taking the Ka Anambra Chawapu message to the grassroots, as the upcoming contest would be “won in the hearts of Ndi Anambra.”
He implored stalwarts not to spare anything in ensuring total victory for the PDP at the poll, noting that the party remained the only platform that genuinely cares for the people.
The Oma Event Centre of the meeting Awka was filled to its 2,000-capacity, as PDP members turned up to express their loyalty and unflinching support for Ozigbo.
“Today is one of appreciation and thank you. Thank you to the leadership of the PDP for your support during the primary and for your continued support in the days and weeks to come,” the guber hopeful said.
Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, dispelled speculations of his planned ditching of the party for a relatively unknown one.
He continued: “All members of PDP NEC, BoT, PDP governors and other stakeholders in other political parties are rooting for us, and with that level of support, there is no need to contemplate moving to another political platform.
“This is PDP’s time to shine and produce the Anambra State governor. I cannot overemphasise this.”
The standard-bearer appealed to aggrieved members to sheathe their sword and work for the onerous task of salvaging the state.
Dignitaries at the event included the party’s vice presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections and ex-governor, Peter Obi, Board of Trustees (BoT) member, Senator (Chief) Ben Ndi Obi, National Working Committee (NWC) member, Chief Okey Muo Aroh, one-time state chairman of the party, Chief Cosmas Agagbo and erstwhile gubernatorial flagbearer, Dr Alex Obiogbolu.
All the speakers extolled Odigbo’s leadership qualities and acknowledged him as one of the most recognisable philanthropists in Nigeria and an international sports developer.
