The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State have traded blames over attack among their supporters at the state capital during a rally organised to welcome Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo back from Abuja.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mary Malum, who confirmed the incident to journalists yesterday in Gombe, said the police were investigating the root cause of the incident.

The state chapter of the APC has accused the PDP of breaching peace accord, which was earlier signed by all the political parties in the state.

Chairman of APC Publicity Campaign Committee, Malam Idris Abdulla, while addressing newsmen on the matter in Gombe, alleged that Dankwambo in company of Senator Usman Bayero, the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate with their political associates as well as thousands of thugs, went on destroying all APC campaign materials on their way to the town from the airport after they picked the governor.

However, Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of PDP Campaign Council, Dahiru Hassan Kera, in his reaction, refuted the allegations.

Kera said the convoy of Dankwambo was attacked by some hoodlums on the outskirts of Gombe in Lafiyo village while coming back from the airport as well as Jekadafari area of Gombe where two of the PDP cars were burnt.

“These actions of the APC clearly bring back the dark memories of activities of Kalere thugs who were known for killing and destruction of property,” he said.
