Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ibadan Northwest/Ibadan Southwest Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, has donated ₦2 million to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Bode Herbs Market in Ibadan.

The donation was made during a sympathy visit to the market, where the former member of the House of Representatives commiserated with traders whose shops and goods were destroyed by the inferno.

Expressing deep sympathy over the unfortunate incident, Hon. Olunloyo-Oshinowo thanked God that no lives were lost, despite the extensive destruction of property and livelihoods.

She assured the affected traders of her unwavering support and pledged to mobilise other well-meaning sons and daughters of Ibadanland to contribute towards the rebuilding of the market and the restoration of the traders’ means of livelihood.

Addressing journalists during the visit, Hon. Olunloyo-Oshinowo reaffirmed her commitment to the welfare of her constituents, noting that beyond the immediate relief, she would facilitate more impactful interventions when she returns to the National Assembly as the representative of the constituency.

“We must continue to stand with our people in difficult times. This is a painful loss for many hardworking families, and I believe collective support will help them recover and rebuild their businesses,” she said.

Some of the affected traders, who spoke with journalists, recounted the magnitude of their losses and expressed appreciation for the timely intervention.

One of them, Alhaji Suleiman Aremu, who has traded in herbs at the market for 22 years, said he lost goods worth over ₦3 million in the fire.

“This support from Mama Folake has restored our hope. We are grateful for her kindness and concern, and we pray that God grants her success in all her endeavours,” he said.

The traders unanimously commended Hon. Olunloyo-Oshinowo for identifying with them in their moment of grief, describing the financial support as a demonstration of compassionate and responsive leadership.
