Arewa youth alleges opposition behind call for Akume’s suspension

The Arewa Youth Assembly has alleged that the opposition politicians were behind a recent call for the suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, over allegations of involvement in a corruption scandal.

The youth group stated that those behind the allegations do not have the best interest of the nation at heart but are planning a conspiracy targeted at distracting the SGF from efficiently discharging his duties.

Speaker, Arewa Youth Assembly, Mohammed Danlami, in a statement on Tuesday, said the call for the suspension of Akume was also a plot to undermine the Government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A northern advocacy group had called for the suspension of Akume over an alleged involvement in a sprawling N80 billion corruption scandal.

In a letter addressed to the President, the forum demanded the SGF’s suspension to pave the way for an unbiased and thorough investigation into fraud allegations

But Danlami described the forum as a faceless group with no history of existence or prior media outings, saying that it was only formed to concoct, spread lies, baseless allegations, and character assassinate dedicated and hard-working members of the Tinubu Government, like the SGF.

Danlami called on President Tinubu to disregard the request of the group calling for the suspension of the SGF, while urging relevant security agencies to order an investigation into the activities of the group.

“This is because they appear to be fraudulent, faceless, and could be contracted to cause chaos and incite violence. Moreover, if the President were to suspend every member of his cabinet over a request from some faceless group because of an allegation, then the cabinet would be left empty,” he said
