The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has rejected the Supreme Court’s ruling on Imo State gubernatorial election and supported the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) protests against the ruling.

In a press briefing organised against the backdrop of the ruling on all governorship cases, AYA’s Clerk, Desmond Minakaro, appealed to governors who lost at the Supreme Court to sheathe their swords, by accepting the verdicts in good faith and ensure they put hands on deck to allow developments take place in their states.

Minkaro said: “While we still maintain our stance, we totally reject the ruling on Imo. We find it a solemn duty to congratulate all governors, who won their cases at the apex court. Let it be on record that Arewa Youth Assembly fully supported the protests organised by PDP in the wake of the judgment in the Imo governorship tussle, which ousted Emeka Ihedioha and elevated Hope Uzodima. In fact, we feel these protests, which occurred throughout the federation, were instrumental to making the Supreme Court have a rethink by dispensing justice properly.

“We, on this note, salute the judges, who passed the judgment, because they succeeded in restoring hope for the common man, at least, for now.”The National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, demonstrated an uncommon act of bravado in leading these protests, which compelled the Supreme Court to do the right thing…”
