Suspected arsonists have set ablaze the Idemili North Local Government Area secretariat, Anambra state in the early hours of Monday.

The Guardian gathered that also burnt by the arsonists were the Magistrate Court inside the premises and the office of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).

A source said that the timely intervention of security personnel and the locals helped to contain the fire which was targeted at razing the entire premises.

Parts of the secretariat building and the operational vehicles parked on the premises, however, were completely destroyed.

The Police in the state confirmed but said there was no human casualty.

“Yes, there was an attack at the council secretariat in the early hours of Monday and our men were quickly drafted to the scene,” State Police Public Relations Officer, Toochukwu Ikenga, said. “Right now, the fire has been put off, and calm restored.”
