Author and Forbes Coaches Council member, Foluso Gbadamosi, has urged parents to play an active role in guiding their children’s digital exploration, stressing that there are many risks associated with unregulated social media use.
Gbadamosi, who gave the admonition, at the weekend, during the launch of her books, titled “Unleash Your Superpower for Teens” and “Companion Guide for Parents,” urged parents to guide their children against contents that are not age-appropriate for them, warning that while it offers a plethora of opportunities, it can also have negative impact in their lives if not properly monitored.
According to her, we need to be intentional about monitoring our children’s online activities. This is because the Internet is recognised as a powerful tool, but without the right boundaries, it can also be harmful.”
She, however, encouraged teenagers to make good use of the digital space by leveraging the wealth of information available online.
She said that the traditional model of parenting where parents dictate every aspect of their children’s lives no longer applies in the modern world, saying that the best way is to guide them towards making informed decisions.
Gbadamosi, however, warned that failing to adapt to the realities of the digital age could hinder not only the personal growth of the teens but also the nation’s future development.
