Avian flu infects over 100,000 birds in Chikun
The recent avian influenza, confirmed by the Kaduna State government to be ravaging Chikun, Igabi and Lere local councils, has infected over 100,000 birds in poultry farms.
According to the state government, the disease is threatening an estimated 107, 807 birds in the three local councils.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Ibrahim Hussaini, at a meeting with the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) and other stakeholders in Kaduna, said three farms had been depopulated and decontaminated, while result from the fourth was being awaited.
Represented by the Director, Veterinary and Livestock Services, Zakariya Puakachi, he said the National Research Veterinary Institute conducted the tests.
