Banana Island building collapse: Lagos says no fatality as investigations continue
The Lagos State Government said there has been no confirmed fatality in the Banana Island building collapse as of Thursday.
The seven-floor building under construction collapsed on Wednesday evening. The government said an investigation is ongoing into the cause of the collapse.
According to the statement on the state’s website, the incident happened while workers at the site were involved in some casting work.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident occurred due to a concrete truck that struck a major structural component of the carcass building.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Engr. Tayo Bamgbose-Martins, was at the site of the incident to assess the situation.
The government also advised Lagosians to remain calm, as the ministry will provide more information.
Other eyewitnesses said that about seven victims of the building collapse who sustained injuries received immediate medical attention from the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
The eyewitness said four of the victims were taken to the hospital.
