Bauchi Assembly partners foundation to check cancer deaths
Bauchi State House of Assembly has partnered with Alheri YSFoundation to address the increasing cases of cancer and the 70,000 yearly deaths.
Speaker of the house, Abubakar Suleiman, while receiving members of the foundation in the assembly complex yesterday, described cancer as one of the major deadly diseases in the country; hence, the need for collaborative efforts to curb it.
Executive Director of the foundation, Miss Alheri Yusuf, said over 100,000 new cases and 70,000 deaths were recorded yearly.
She said people of the North East part of the country were struggling with the increasing burden of cancer and other diseases.
Responding, the Speaker assured the foundation that the legislative arm would collaborate with the executive to establish a breast cancer management unit in the state to curtail the deadly effect of the disease.
Abubakar said the assembly would also collaborate with the foundation towards enlightening the populace at the grassroots through media outreach on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
Chairman of the House Committee on Health Saleh Jadori, described the visit as timely, stressing that “early detection of cancer is key” to saving lives.
