Borno deputy governor confirms attack on military base
The Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Durkwa has confirmed that Boko Haram terrorists, yesterday, attacked a military base at Gudumbali in Guzamala Council.
Durkwa said he was yet to get the number of casualties from security agencies, though the Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu and Brigade Commander of Military Forces in Monguno confirmed the incident.
Military sources said: “Several soldiers fled the attacked base due to the fire power of insurgents during the attack.”
Durkwa said Boko Haram insurgents succeeded in taking control of the council headquarters, forcing soldiers to flee their base in the afternoon.
He asked residents not to panic, as government with security operatives and Civilian Joint Task Force, (JTF) were doing everything possible to restore peace in the affected area.
