An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos yesterday remanded at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, Ikeja, a 13-year-old boy (name withheld) who allegedly stabbed a man to death in a market.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo made the order following a remand application by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba, Lagos. The police arraigned the minor on a one count temporary charge of murder marked FCY/EB/51/2019.

Prosecuting Inspector Chinalu Uwadione told the court that the incident occurred at about 6pm on December 15, 2019 at Iyana-Iba Orange Market, Ojo, Lagos. He alleged that the minor “did unlawfully kill one Nnamdi, surname unknown, by stabbing him to death with a broken bottle on his chest.”

Uwadionne said the boy was angry after being falsely accused of stealing. The court heard that the offence contravened Section 222 and was punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The minor’s plea was not taken. Mrs. Adedayo granted Uwadione’s application and remanded the minor at the Correctional Centre.

She directed the police to transfer the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice and adjourned till February 26.
