
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has presented, to the House of Assembly, a N217 billion Finance and Appropriation Bill for the 2014 fiscal year.
Speaking at the presentation, yesterday, Buni said under the ‘Budget of Consolidation and Economic Recovery’, key sectors and programmes that have direct impact on the lives of the citizens would be prioritised.
He said N122.8 billion (56.61 per cent) would be allocated to capital projects, while N94.2 billion (43.39 per cent) was proposed for recurrent expenditure.
Reviewing the N163 billion 2023 budget, the governor said the total receipts of the state from January to September stood at N113.1 billion, representing 69.4 per cent.
Buni said: “Out of the N94.89 billion earmarked for recurrent expenditure in the 2023 Budget, the actual amount expended was N65.9 billion, representing 69.6 per cent success. In the N68.1 billion allocated for capital expenditure, N28.9 billion (42.4 per cent) was spent.
“The overall performance of the 2023 budget for both recurrent and capital expenditure was N94.9 billion (58.2 per cent) as of September 30. Receipts and expenditure are expected to increase before the end of the year.”
Assembly Speaker, Ciroma Mashio, assured Buni that the budget would be passed before December 31, 2023.
