Businessman accuses family of destroying his businesses over political donation

Olawoye Anthony Dawodu, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, has cried out for protection from the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies, alleging that his family members have shut down his businesses and are actively working to destroy him.

Speaking in an interview with reporters, Dawodu traced his ordeal to when he voluntarily donated ₦30 million to a politician from an opposition party—a move that allegedly angered members of his family.

Dawodu, who is not a politician but has a history of supporting leaders he believes in, stated that his family turned against him after news of his donation became public.

“I am not a politician, but I normally support politicians who I believe can serve society well and improve the lives of people and communities,” Dawodu explained.

“I donated about ₦30 million to the politician, but my family members found out because it was reported in the newspapers. They reacted by shutting down my access to my businesses and income sources. The places I used to get my goods from were closed off to me. They started threatening me, and I was no longer safe.”

A source familiar with the situation disclosed that Dawodu’s family felt betrayed because he supported an outsider instead of one of their own.

“His family members were angry that he chose to support someone outside the family. Because of their political influence, they shut down his businesses, restricted his access to goods, and made sure he had no way to continue his operations. They even threatened his life,” the source revealed.

Dawodu has since approached security agencies in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts of the country, seeking help. However, he laments that his cries for justice have so far gone unanswered.

“I have gone to the police authorities and other security agencies, yet nothing is being done. I have even taken my case to Port Harcourt to draw attention to my plight, but sadly, nobody is responding to me,” he said.

With the situation growing increasingly dire, Dawodu fears for his safety.

“It is becoming worrisome. Must I die before this matter is looked into? I am crying for justice now,” he pleaded.
