Coalition seeks passage of ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’ in states
A Coalition of 54 non-government organisations, under the umbrella of Not Too Young To Run Movement, has urged all State Houses of Assembly to pass the equally named bill.
It said if more youths were given freedom to seek elective positions, there would be more new ideas in the polity.
The body faulted the Taraba House of Assembly for not endorsing the bill, even as it commended the 21 Houses of Assembly that had already done so.
Speaking to The Guardian at the weekend in Owerri, the Imo State coordinator of the coalition, Prince Chimezie Okoro, commended the youths whom he said constituted 52 per cent of people who registered in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, regretting that the number fell short of expectation.
He said the coalition would mobilise more youths to register and obtain Permanent Voter Cards.
